Description: 19th century chiefly Maori Wahaika hand club with naturalistic human form to the inside blade and face to the handle. Both faces with projecting tongue and carved with incised moku features formed by haehae lines and dragon tooth notching with shell inlay forming the eyes. The human form with arms to front and elaborated male genitalia. The handle with square suspension hole. This piece is well balanced with quality of carving indicating this was undertaken by a tohunga.
