19th century Fijian Gugu club. Inked label reads ‘Melanesian war club S. McDonald’. One of three Fijian clubs from the same collection all with similar inked labels. The head carved with incised decoration with stylised depiction of the flat butterfly fish. Old lime clay repair to the handle.
