Description

A rare hand formed 19th century Fijian pottery water vessel consisting of three conjoined spherical elements and three cylindrical stirrups. Decorative elements of pinched dots to the stirrups and incised design to the main three bodies. This type of pottery is commonly modelled on various forms of fruit, with this example modelled on a cluster of citrus fruits ‘moli’. It’s glazed with the makadre gum of the dakua pine and has a light reddish hew.
