Description

19th century Gilbert Island (Kiribati) shark tooth sword. The shaft with round shaped cross section comprising three rows of shark teeth terminating to a point at each end. Each tooth is drilled and fixed by sennit and human hair binding with each row set within two wooden spines. Located to the base of the shark teeth is a sections of fine matting interleaved with human hair binding. This is a good complete example with nearly all of its teeth intact. Small bit of damage to the tip.
